CAPE TOWN — A 15-year-old South African teenager has reportedly become one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs after making R150,000 a day selling personal information belonging to unsuspecting members of the public.

The teenager, Kyle Koekemoer, began his business after discovering that South Africans were willing to give up information if they thought you were a local 45-year-old looking for love in their area. “I started with phone numbers,” said Koekemoer. “Then I realised I could also sell their ID numbers.”

The young entrepreneur gave The Grapevine News an exclusive look into his operations from his bedroom, where he manages a growing network of clients using a laptop, a smartphone and what he describes as “a very good internet connection”. His services include the sale of phone numbers, email addresses, ID numbers and that three-digit number on the back of a card that you always read out when the bank lady calls.

The teenager’s parents are proud of his new business, with his mother recently putting him first in the siblings’ power ranking.

“Kyle has shown a lot of hard work and commitment,” said Lynette Koekemoer. “I am glad he is nothing like his lawyer brother.”

When asked what he planned to do with his money, Kyle told The Grapevine News that he intends to donate a large chunk of it to Kids Without Computers.
